Gary Gygax has passed away

The gaming industry suffered a loss with the Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax passing away March 4. He was a source of inspiration to many in the industry. He received numerous awards for his achievements. In 2002, he was on Gamespy's list of 30 most influential people in gaming. Our condolences go out to his family.

SoE holiday events

You might be, oh my, she is actually posting on this blog again? Yep, that's right.

Anyways, to get to the blog point of the day, Sony Online Entertainment are offering some fun holiday events this Christmas holiday season. MMORPG players rejoice, Everquest, Everquest 2, Legends of Norrath, Vanguard, Pirates and StarWars all are celebrating the season (except in StarWars it is called Wookie Life Day, not Frostfell).

In Everquest, EQ1, Santug's little helpers have been kidnapped and Zoog in Great Divide is looking for help to figure out what happened.

In Everquest 2, EQ2, Frostfell is in Neriak, Freeport, Qeynos and Gorowyn with all its fun stuff. For more info on Frostfell, please see my EQ2 gaming blog at Cor's Gaming Blog.

In Legends of Norrath, LoN, there is a special holiday story about the Grinnuch and his army. Free Santug and earn promotional cards!

In Vanguard land they know who has been naughty or nice. If you have been good you might find yourself with some gifts. You could also get some bonus yummy sounding stuff like cookies for just walking around the countryside.

StarWars, ah the land of galaxies. The Woshyr tree will be lit up and offering gifts to all those who visit it. Beautiful Christmas songs will also be played of course.

In Pirates, King Blackheart has his digital promotional ship Zeus and gives gifts just like Santa would.

Masseffect - new game for XBOX 360

This new sci-fi game from BioWare looks pretty cool. The storyline is that an ancient machine race has wiped the planet only to leave ruins behind. You portray the commander Shepard and your ship is SS Normandy. You can customize your character, choose your abilities, weapons, squad and more. Graphic wise it also looks like a really cool game.

On the site for Masseffect you can read more about this exciting space game. However, a thing of note, why does the commander have to be male? No one ever heard about female gamers? There are quite a few of us female gamers out there, the game industry needs to portray this in their games as well. There have been a couple of games I plain didn't buy only because they don't have a female character (certain fight games for example). What? They never heard of females with a temper? Anyways, apart from the gender issue, Masseffect does have some nice graphics, a decent storyline and you can get some cool downloads from their site.

Cars - the game

Cars - available on several consoles as well as PC - is fun for the whole family. The scenes take some time to load sometimes, but overall it is a good game. There are different settings of course, you can set an easier settings for the kids and a more difficult one for yourself.

Rockband The Game - Want a headache?

Well...
on the pro side: 1. I didn't buy the game (someone in this house did)
2. It is a cool idea and I can see how people might think it is fun
3. Woohoo! I have a paid EQ2 subscription and I can and I will crank up the battle music!

on the con side: 1. Want a migraine? or maybe just a tad of a headache? The drums for this game are ridiculous. It isn't anything similar to real drums (which would sound a lot better), it sounds like someone is breaking a house down and if you don't have rhythm to it, it sounds a lot worse. It is better to get someone real drums than this game (it might still be louder than you like, but trust me, it isn't all that bad comparatively speaking).
2. You had better hope that the person you are getting this for can sing (or at least hold a tune in a bucket) or you might want to invest in earplugs.

Venture beyond Norrath

Well after much time and consideration I decided to make a separate blog for reviews on games other than EQ2. For EQ2 thoughts, inputs, tips and tricks, please visit Cor's Gaming Blog. Thus you see the thoughts behind the name for this blog, more cor. Yes, the Corisu does venture outside the land of Norrath, although EQ2 is still my favorite game. I do like other games (how about they start making grown up horse games? Not just Horse Petz or whatever they now all are called), Spyro rocks... well in my humble opinion anyways, and Shadow of the Colossus has one neat horse in it. Games of all kinds will be reviewed on in this blog although the cor might on occasion stray on over temporarily to the land of Norrath. The shadowknight is yet again on a leveling spree.
